Not ready for prime time player.
Ok, so I was waiting for last Thursday to update my blog. That's because it was the date of my first OB/GYN appointment, and my first ultrasound.
That's right. I'm pregnant.
WOOHOO! I had no real symptoms, but I grew dizzy at work a couple of times, and something in my head said "maaaybe?" I also went postal a couple of days in a row, which I thought may be a mega PMS, but no period. So I went to the calendar to figure out when my last period was, and I realized that I should be having the final day of my period. Oh boy. That was Monday August 30, so I went home early and took a home test. Positive. And without the 2 minute wait. I told Melvin that afternoon, and he insisted I take another test. Positive. Even faster than the other.
I decided to walk in to the clinic where I usually go, and Thursday was my first day off work. The wait time there is usually horrible, but when I put pregnancy test on my walk-in form, they rushed me to the back. I was at the office for no more than an hour total. The doctor I saw was my usual doctor, and she was so so excited! She is my age and so is the nurse, I heard them talking in the hall about how excited they were even before they came to tell me!
After she told me, she changed my Diabetes meds. I am now on insulin and a new blood pressure medication which seems to be working pretty well. Then she told gave me the number for an OB/GYN and told me she didn't want to see me again until I was walking in with a new baby in my arms :D
I got recommendations from friends and made an appointment with Dr. M for September 23. I was also told I needed to go to a "new mom" orientation class which was scheduled for the 15th. Mr. Man and I went to the class where they took about all of my blood (and bruised the hell out of me because she was determined to go for the monster vein in my right arm). We (meaning I) filled out a ton of paperwork, we were given bags of literature to read, bags of sample products, and a pregnancy journal from Similac. Then they went over some dos and don'ts, some things to expect etc. A WIC representative spoke to us and they talked about our insurance.
Finally we had our appointment. They called us back and did the ultrasound first thing. We heard the heartbeat which was amazing. The heart rate was 173. Based on the ultrasound my due date was moved to May 3,2011. The only other thing of note during the appointment was the doctor's decision to have me do a 24 urine test, which means I have to collect for a full day to check my kidney function to see if there is damage and to make sure sure the pregnancy does not cause/exacerbate the damage.

Since we don't know what it is yet, and I don't feel right calling the baby 'he' 'she' or especially 'it' and peanut just doesn't sound right, I've begun calling it "The not ready for prime time player." Prime time for short. And yes, as I hope you recognize, I am referring to these people:
I have been buying things here and there, but my favorite so far is my thrift store find, 5 onesies for $1.25:

Savings Sunday
Okay, so after weeks/months of telling Mr. Man about my kickass savings, he told me to "maybe, uh, find a friend who does that coupon stuff? Cause, you know... I don't care." HAH! Plus he comes at this from a grocery manager position, so he has had to deal with coupon bitches (those lovely ladies that take it from coupon queen to that embarrassing screaming at a cashier point). SO! Today the numbers aren't impressive, but there were a couple of individual deals that MADE MY LITTLE COUPONING DAY!
At Publix, Spent $45.37 Saved $27.01
The great deals:
Hormel completes, BOGO- bought 3 for $2.64 after 2 manu coupons, 55¢ each
Mahatma rice, Sale 99¢- bought 2 for -.02 after 2 manu coupons, 50¢ each doubled
Renuzit, 2/$1.59- bought 3 for $1.83 after manu coupon, 55¢
Hormel bacon bits- bought 1 for .79¢ after Publix coupon $1
Carpet fresh 1.99- bought 1 for .99¢ after Publix coupon $1
Huggies snugglers bought 1 for $3.49 after Manu coupon, $2.50 Publix coupon, $5
And that's that! This Sunday's coupons are GREAT and I ended up with 4 papers today because Mr. Man knows I like getting the coupons but couldn't remember which paper I usually buy..... this after I already got two myself. And my mom will probably bring me the ones from her job, so that's 5 papers worth of coupons.

Blogging
I have moments where I want to blog, but I don't seem to want to make the time for it. When I'm home, I just want to spend time with the husband, or if not that I want to read these library books since I can no longer sit at work for hours reading every day. Sad :(
I'm also becoming more obsessive about the couponing. I went back to a coupon notebook because the wallet was getting too thick. I also got my first free items through coupons, my next goal is to have coupons worth more than the item, let the savings spill over to my other groceries...
A certain someone has been mentioning babies again, so who knows where that will lead this time.
My blood sugars are in the normal range most of the time, with the occasional dawn effect. I woke up at 211, and dinner was at 7 at the latest. I asked to change blood pressure meds in case I get pregnant, but I have gone back off this new pill because it caused my hands to first swell and then go numb. The first day my hand was numb I thought I slept on it funny. The second time it happened at work and I realized it was an awesome side effect. When I go back to the doctor I will ask for a new drug class. I was told that ACE inhibitors (my original med) would not effect the baby (should I get pregnant) until the second trimester, but there is this:
"ACE inhibitors are already known to be dangerous to babies during the second two trimesters of pregnancy, since they can cause impaired fetal growth, kidney disorders, and other problems. This new study - while it is a retrospective analysis and not strongly suggests that ACE inhibitors ought to be avoided during the first trimester as well. It is not likely that more definitive information will be forthcoming any time soon. This being the case, hypertensive women who are pregnant or who might become pregnant should avoid ACE inhibitors. Other anti hypertensive drugs - diuretics, beta blockers, or calcium channel blockers - should probably be used instead." -N Engl J Med 2006; 354:2443-24511
Which was the reason I asked to go on another pill. Which was the diuretic. Which sucked BAD. Anyway, I will also have insurance beginning July 1st. My doc wants to put me on a daily shot that according to her helps you lose weight. Every patient she's put it on has lost 5 or more pounds (according to her)... but this shot is oh, about $600/month!!!! So of course she told me to let her know when I'm insured so we can look into this option. THAT WOULD KICK ASS if it works.

1. Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life? Helen Hunt and Leelee Sobieski (people think I look like them... although usually when I'm thinner I suppose).
2. Did you ever go to summer camp? No but I worked at a summer camp for four years and LOVED IT!
3. What sends you running and screaming in the other direction? The thought of climbing on some high place- ladders, trees, elevated walkways...
4. What is something you do that drives your spouse nuts? Probably a ton! Usually I hear that I am "defensive" and I "hear him but don't listen." And what that last usually means is that I didn't do what he wanted and that's his explanation why I didn't.
5. What is currently your favorite song? Yikes, I guess at the moment I am listening to "fell on black days" Soundgarden
